Snow Phases in Andorra - Winter Driving Guide
Andorra’s snow phases are alert levels that indicate theimpact of snowfall on traffic. They allow drivers to adapt their driving and equipment. Follow these recommendations for your safety on the RN22, the Envalira pass and the roads leading to Pas de la Case.
Yellow Phase
- Special tyres or chains are mandatory.
- Speed limit: 60 km/h.
- Drive carefully, particularly on bends and sloping sections.
- Two-wheelers and personal mobility vehicles are not allowed.
Orange Phase
- Chains mandatory for all vehicles over 3.5 tonnes.
- Speed limit: 50 km/h.
- Articulated lorries are asked to avoid travelling.

Red Phase
- Chains mandatory for all vehicles.
- Speed limit: 30 km/h.

Located on the border between France and Andorra, Pas de la Case is a popular destination for its ski resorts, duty-free shopping and magnificent mountain scenery. Here are the main routes to get there from France and Spain.
From France
To reach Pas de la Case from France, take the A66 motorway towards Foix and Ax-les-Thermes, then continue on the RN20 to L'Hospitalet-près-l'Andorre, and finally the RN22 (Puymorens road) up to the Puymorens pass. You can then choose between the tunnel or the Envalira pass to arrive directly in Pas de la Case. In winter, the Envalira tunnel is recommended to avoid difficult snow conditions.
- Tips: In winter, prefer the Envalira tunnel for better safety.
- Check traffic and snow conditions on the RN22, especially during holidays and weekends.

From Spain
From Spain, take the AP-7 towards La Seu d’Urgell, then continue on the N145 to enter Andorra. Then follow the CG-1 to Escaldes-Engordany, and take the CG-2 towards the Envalira tunnel to arrive in Pas de la Case.
